Now this is more like it!!!

Sun Sports took full control of the match against bottom dwelling Lemsford FC on Saturday and although nine goals were scored, if you added all the shots that were saved or hit the woodwork, the full time result could have ended in a record breaking 22 goals!

Ashley Lewis was man of the match with 5 goals (Sun’s fourth on the video was attributed to George Hobson but it was later found out that it was a Lewis shot that hit the net) and Ashley started his scoring as early as the 2nd minute when he wrong footed a gaggle of defenders to calmly slot the ball home past the Lemsford keeper.

Amazingly, it took a while for the Sun to double their advantage and after Ashley Lewis went close, the opposition tried to get back into the match with one shot that fell nicely into Luke Furlong’s arms while the other Lemsford attempt was worked well down the right with the winger coming in from an overlap to hit the ball sweetly which Furlong did well to save.

Mr Lewis was soon causing the Lemsford defence problems again, and on this occasion on a one to one with the keeper the goalie came out on top by deflecting the strength of the shot enabling a defender to get back and clear the ball to safety.

A miss hit clearance from a Lemsford player came to Lewis who flicked the ball onto Karl Penny, on his first game back from injury, leaving his marker for dead, but on the one to one with the keeper he dragged his shot just wide of the goal.

Ashley Lewis was next in line to have a go at goal and he rounded the keeper with ease to aim the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

A George Hobson long ball found Karl Penny again in a one to one situation with the Lemmy keeper, and, using his right foot on this occasion, still managed to drag the ball wide of the far post!

Frustration was beginning to show on Karl’s face as he kicked the post in temper, which showed that he could at least hit something!!

The Sun scored their third and it was finally Karl Penny who got his goal when he came in late from a George Hobson cross to divert the ball goalwards.

Ash went close with a free kick that narrowly went over the crossbar soon after and after that a Josh Squires-Adams – Paolo Deritis move (it’s nice to be able to put someone else’s name on here!!) was laid back to George Hobson but his shot went just over.

Ashley was back in action when his shot beat the keeper but came back off the post, but he soon got his fourth of the game and his hat trick a few minutes later.

And the fifth was scored close to half time when an offside flag was raised but ignored by the young referee leaving the duo of Ashley and Lemford keeper having their usual one on one duel, which Ash won by smashing in the 5th of the game.

Karl Penny decided that he wanted to try and double his tally when he beat his marker, stayed on his feet after he was tripped, remained composed, but failed to take his chance when his shot went over the bar.

At half time, with the Sun five to the good, the Lemsford lino had a few words with the ref, and then walked off in a huff never to be seen again and a replacement was found.

Lemsford started well in the second half, and pushed forward to try to bring down the damage that they suffered in the first 45, but Ashley Lewis was still in fine form with a thunderous shot that rattled the crossbar.

A George Hobson free kick was chipped into the box finding, who else but that man again, Ashley Lewis, whose downward header went under the Lemsford goalie to make it six.

A beautiful curling cross was sent in by Josh S-A which found Hobson unmarked and available to hit a half volley on the six yard area which was well blocked by the keeper.

From the resulting corner, George finally got his reward when his corner was floated in and over the keeper in a carbon copy of last week’s goal against Tring.

For those who have lost count, that was the Sun’s magnificent seventh goal of the afternoon.

Ashley was fouled ten yards from the penalty area and up stepped Karl Penny to confidently place the ball through the gap in the wall and into the bottom right of the Lemsford goal.

Karl managed to get his hat trick and a share of the match ball when he nicked the ball under the Lemsford goalie but unfortunately got clattered by the outcoming custodian in the process and had to go off injured.

Let’s hope that it won’t be as long as last time that Karl was injured.

Although the Sun had scored nine they were determined to try to make double figures.

No one more so than Deji Ikusemori who was feeling a bit left out of the goal scoring stakes, Deji had two chances in the closing minutes that the Lemsford keeper managed to save by using his legs.

Sub Josh Towle, on for the injured Karl Penny, attempted to latch onto a long ball pumped forward but the Lemsford goalkeeper just managed to get to the ball before him, while another sub, Josh Connolly, was brought down in the box but the ref waved the appeals away.

Josh had another chance soon after but again the Lemsford keeper got his legs in the way, otherwise it would definitely would have been goal number ten.

Deji pounced on the rebound of the keeper’s save and was then knocked to the floor in the box by a high boot.

Before anyone could say anything, Deji claimed the ball and wanted to score his first goal of the season.

The “Dejster” stepped up to the ball and skied it over the crossbar!!

Although Deji wanted the penalty to be removed permanently from all records, it was voted against by the rest of the Sun squad that the pen should stay on video, to show younger Sun stars how not to take a penalty!!

Saturday’s 9-0 win was the biggest that the club have had since 20th August 2013 when the Sun beat Stony Stratford Town 10-0. A game where Ashley Lewis scored twice!!

However, the Sun’s best ever win was a 19-1 win over Watford British Legion in 1936.
